Barratt Redrow Pledges £60K of Support for The Joshua Tree
  • Housebuilder takes part in special DIY SOS for CiN build at The Joshua Tree
  • New family lodges at cancer charity sponsored by Barratt Redrow
  • Donation for vital support services amid increasing demand

Children's cancer support charity The Joshua Tree has received a boost of around £60,000 from Barratt Redrow, who are sponsoring new family lodges built as part of a special DIY SOS for Children in Need build.

The lodges will give children undergoing cancer treatment and their families a place to stay onsite for the first time. In addition, the housebuilder's community fund is donating a further £8,000 towards equipment and services to meet increasing demand for support.

In September, The Joshua Tree was part of special DIY SOS for Children in Need build. Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team were joined by trades from Barratt Redrow and its timber arm, Oregon, along with an army of volunteers to build a new extension that nearly doubles the size of the charity's facilities - all in just 12 days.

Currently supporting 450 families, The Joshua Tree was in desperate need of expansion to offer more wellness services, education, counselling and much-needed accommodation for families travelling long distances for treatment.

The ambitious build means that the centre now has a new gym, therapy and counselling rooms, safe play areas and family lodges. Barratt Redrow is delighted to provide long-term support to The Joshua Tree as demand for its services continues to grow.

Richard Driffield, Chief Executive of The Joshua Tree, said: "We're delighted to have the continued support of Barratt Redrow at such a significant time in the charity's history. The demand for our work continues to grow on a national scale, and this partnership with Barratt Redrow will help us to support even more families in the coming year. We are hugely grateful for all their support."

Barratt Redrow's Chief Executive David Thomas added: "The Joshua Tree offers warmth, compassion and strength to those navigating the hardest of journeys, and their dedication has moved all of us deeply. Seeing how our donation and our team's involvement with the DIY SOS for Children in Need build will help even more families in the future is truly humbling."

The Joshua Tree was founded in 2006 by Dai and Lynda Hill when their son Josh was diagnosed with Leukaemia. They founded The Joshua Tree after they couldn't find a service that supported the emotional wellbeing of the whole family from diagnosis through post-treatment.

Josh and his parents joined some of the families currently receiving support to see the unveiling of the new extension in an emotional reveal, alongside Pudsey, staff from The Joshua Tree, and all of the trades.

Amongst the trades supporting Barratt Redrow's team were Rigby Plastering, Redrose drylining, Peninsula Scaffolding and Fox Group.

After completing this monumental challenge, a team from Barratt Redrow is already in training for their next adventure. The team is taking on an Arctic Trek in February 2026 aiming to raise a further £20,000 to make sure that The Joshua Tree can provide support for every family who needs them.
